HSC Covid-19 Incident Management Team Situation Report April 7, 2020 4:10 pm

Updates will be provided on this website by the Unified Command twice daily. Total reported positive cases in Wyoming is 216. Hot Springs County test results to date include: 16 tests, 0 positive HSC residents, 1 positive test (Washakie County resident), 14 negative, 1 pending,  14 individuals are on home isolation in HSC.

What does this mean? Why are there people in self-isolation if there are no confirmed cases?

A confirmed case means that samples were laboratory tested and found to be positive for Coronavirus. Because of the shortage of these tests there are strict criteria as to who can be tested. Generally, people at highest risk of complications, people who are hospitalized, pregnant women, health care workers and first responders have priority to be tested. Most people who contract Coronavirus recover at home on their own. If someone has the symptoms for Coronavirus, but does not meet testing criteria, they are advised to stay home and self-isolate. Isolation is used to separate sick people from healthy people. In the home, anyone sick should separate themselves from others by staying in a specific “sick” bedroom or space and using a different bathroom (if possible). Extra attention should be paid to disinfecting surfaces, hand hygiene and observing maximum possible distance.

A report of 14 individuals on self-isolation means that 14 people have Coronavirus symptoms, but do not have a positive diagnosis from a lab test. These people self-isolate as a cautionary step because isolation will prevent public spread of Coronavirus IF they have it. The important message is that we all follow the prevention and social distancing  guidelines.
