Sheriff Lou Falgoust             Undersheriff Dave Larson

We wish you a Safe and Happy New Year!

The Hot Springs County Sheriff`s Department has thirteen dedicated individuals whose primary purpose is to protect the well-being, safety and security of all the people in the County.  The Department is also responsible for operating a safe and constitutional jail. In recent years, the Department has upgraded its radios and communications. It has worked closely with the Town of Thermopolis Police Department. In fact, both agencies work out of the Joint Law Enforcement Center at 417 Arapahoe.

The Department has supported programs that encourage education,  self-help and self-esteem.  The DARE program in the schools is an example of  a program that helps young people choose responsible alternatives to alcohol, drugs and tobacco.

Sheriff Lou is an avid bicyclist.  Recently, the department purchased an electric-assisted bicycle to be used by the sheriff deputies.  A deputy will not be asked to use the bicycle unless "he or she has a propensity for bicycling."  The bicycle allows an officer to patrol better in some areas than they could with a patrol car.

Thanks to a Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant from the Department of Justice, our department will once again be able to place a deputy in the Thermopolis school system.  We feel that, in addition to the security and law enforcement that the deputy will provide, he or she will be a sounding board for some students with a person they trust.  A SRO (school resource officer) has been hired and is already on the job.  He is also an enthusiastic bicycler.  The bicycle will continue to be a valuable tool for the department.

Keep your eye on this lot on 14th Street.  It is the future location of a new Search and Rescue building.  It was formerly school property and has been purchased by the County.
